68 - Major Defeat Suffered By The Right On International Economic Justice Front: Bolivia Prevails In Nationalization Of Its Natural Gas Industry

There's good news for those of us who cheer when Third World nations make progress in their efforts to step out from under the boot heel of Western economic exploitation.

Six months ago, way back in podcast 42, we discussed how Evo Morales, the newly elected President of Bolivia, had nationalized Bolivia's oil and gas industry. He gave foreign companies 180 days to turn over a majority stake in their Bolivian operations, or leave the country.

For decades, most of the profits from Bolivia's natural resources had gone into the pockets of foreign multinationals, while the majority of Bolivia's people lived in dire poverty. Morales said no more.

Despite widespread condemnation and naysaying by right-wing forces, Bolivia has prevailed: the companies have now agreed to its demands.

Another nail in the coffin of the right-wing international economic agenda.

  1. 'When is your conspiracy book coming out? Does it come free with a tinfoil hat? By the way, how will your audience use this to kick right-wing butt? They don't argue. They scream, protest, or call names. I will bet Bolivians don't get richer now that they have nationalized oil and gas. I bet output will drop (see Venezuela) and anti-Americanism will rise, promoted by their government (see Venezuela. )

    NO jefe WE use LOGIC...

    Like so:

I bet that you were one of the people who were so sure the tax increase for the rich put in by Bill Clinton in '93 would ruin the economy and cause a MASSIVE RECESSION. Now we ALL KNOW that didn't happen, IN FACT THE OPPOSITE HAPPENED. So my opinion on your right wing fantasy economic predictions are that they are just that.... FANTASY. Your track record versus REALITY on these issues is quite clear.

TRY THAT FACT BASED ARGUMENT ON FOR SIZE

And by the way WHO in this argument is calling folks names (tinfoil hat, conspiracy book... are these YOUR best "arguments"). He who lives in glass house....

Also I find your concern about the Bolivian and Venezuelan peoples plight oh so touching ;)
