45 - Right-Wing Policies Kill America's Coal Miners

I repeat quite often that right-wingers invariably cause increased human misery, suffering, pain and death. Today I'll present a perfect example of precisely the type of such havoc that ensues when right-wingers achieve power.

We've recently witnessed the dual tragedies of the Sago mine explosion in January, which killed 12 West Virginia coal miners, and then the Harlan County mine explosion in May, which killed 5 Kentucky coal miners. Many of the miners survived the actual explosions, but died from lack of oxygen.

Mine disasters happen, right? Nothing the right-wing did to help cause these, correct?

Wrong.

Right-wing actions have significantly increased the likelihood of mining disasters, and decreased the likelihood that miners will survive such incidents.

There are four main areas where Bush administration actions have created conditions which inevitably lead to more disasters and lower survival rates for the miners:

--cutting the budget, staff and enforcement efforts of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA);

--appointing mining company executives to oversee their own industry;

--opposing stronger mining safety and health regulations, even rolling back some of them

--and last but not least, punishing MSHA employees who try to correct dangerous mining conditions.

You'll hear interspersed throughout the podcast, family members of miners who were killed, along with the United Mine Workers union president and two Congressmen who are trying to legislate protection for the miners.

The Left are not without shame. Failure to suport troops abroad in anti war spin in serving the needs of competing French oil company interests, gives power to terrorists and increases the mortality of those troops. When are the Left going to learn to shut up and suport the troops. Hijackings were ended in the 70s with a clear message
"No negotiations".
We need a new solidarity globally
"No safe haven"
Every one of them should be told they will be hunted in every country on the planet for the rest of their lives.
That is the most efficient way to end the violence politicising the situation for self interest is killing our own, totally unnecessarily.

Our anonymous poster is drunk on the Republican kool-aid.

Newsflash, idiot. Blind support of a massive failure and putting a silly yellow ribbon on your car does NOTHING for our troops.

Putting the truth about The Bush crime family does far more for our nation and our democracy than sitting on your ass and believing the lies.

When are the cowards on the Right going stop hiding behind the skirts of the military by pretending that any criticism of Wingnut idiocy is an attack on those troops? I'll support them by NOT shutting up.

What are you, like twelve? You weren't even alive back then, my little anonymous troll, or you'd be too embarassed to bring up "negotiating" with the enemy. Have an adult tell you about President Alzheimer's brilliant "arms for hostages" strategy during Itran-Contra.

Fool.

I'm all for everyone who supports the war by supporting our troops in the war to join the armed forces so that the guys who are out there serving double tours of duties can come home to their families. amen. problem solved.

C'mon, Jack! Miners' families, UMW officials, and two congressmen pandering to union voters are not exactly impartial, disinterested observers.

You don't really expect us to believe they are going to give us the unvarnished truth, do you?

Yeah, you know all about what a miner feels, and how he suffers, enough to make the bullshit comments that you just made. If you feel that the unions are so bad, why don't you move your @#$%-encrusted ass that's been sitting in front of a keyboard to Harlan County, become a miner, and join the UMW?

Because you can't. What you can do is talk more shit at Mr. Clark's board, then click away feeling satisfied that you've given him a shiner on behalf of your beloved master, Emperor Bush. You may think that you are a mature man with an independent mind, but all you are is a sheep-man with no will of his own whatsoever except to parrot and repeat felgacarb from Faux News

Prove me wrong. Please.

Great podcast - a must listen to
Jack Clark documents the right's wars on the poor, civil liberties, the right of workers to organize at work and obtain a decent working wage and work conditions, and against other countries who refuse to accept American domination. Jack provides all the sources so that you can see for yourself how the right is out to enrich itself at the expense of everyone else. Great job, Jack!

awesome show
Clark always backs up his statements against the right wing with fact and data, which gives him all the more credibility. As conglomerate media controlled by politics clouds the mainstream news media, Jack Clark, along with NPR and Democracy Now! have become my primary news source. Awesome podcast!

In-Depth, Meaty, Hardcore Knowledge
This podcast is not just entertainment, humor, chimp-bashing, or gee-whiz recap of the weeks events. Instead, it hits hard and in-depth on the world economic situation and how right-wing policies impact the poor and less advantaged all over the world. He examines Americas support of the World Bank, IMF,multinational corporations, etc., and connects the dots. This is a podcast for grown-ups. He gives good reasons why the right wing is NOT living up to its precious Bible, without putting down the Bible. As a Jesus-loving Christian and moderate Democrat, I respect this podcast for its subject matter. The grown-up manner of the speaker is just icing on the cake. He IS funny, but hes not trying to be, he just has a deadpan delivery but doesnt have to make jokes to make it interesting. The facts make it interesting and devastating.

A Breath of Fresh Air
Jack Clarks Blast the Right podcast is truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to political commentary. Jack is not like some commentators who simply climb on their soap box and state their own opinions as fact. Instead, Jack welcomes competent challenges to his way of thinking, and with logical analysis and sound research, debunks the lies, distortions, and self-deceptions of the right wing. I strongly recommend Blast the Right for people who seek the truth and care more about the long term health and well-being of the whole citizenry than the short term personal gain advocated by modern conservatives. Listen as Jack carefully shows how the high-sounding "God and country" rhetoric of the right wing is really just a smokescreen for policies that ultimately lead only to the increased misery, suffering, and death of the less fortunate for the particular benefit of the wealthy and the well-connected. And, if you find yourself in agreement, return to Podcast Alley to place your vote! Thanks!
